The small shop behind Air Tracker

Item Finder is a small British shop built around a tracker for the keys you put down somewhere entirely sensible and then could not find again. Here is who runs it, where your parcel comes from, and who really should not be buying one.

A Manchester company, not a call centre

The shop belongs to BH Commerce Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with its registered office in Manchester. The team behind it is very small: the people who choose the stock are the same people who answer the emails and tape up the boxes. There is no call centre, no outsourced support desk, and nobody reading a script back at you.

That is deliberate rather than something we are apologising for. Selling a cheap tracker only works if the running costs stay low, so we keep the company small, the range short and the website plain. What is not spent on gloss stays out of the price, and it means a question can be answered properly instead of being passed along a queue.

The stock sits on a shelf in Britain

Every tracker we sell is already in this country before you order it. We import the stock in bulk, hold it here, and when an order comes through somebody picks it off the shelf, packs it and hands it to Royal Mail. Nothing is drop-shipped from overseas, and nothing sets off on a long journey the moment you press the button.

The practical upshot is that no customs charge can land on your doormat after the fact, and your parcel is not sitting in a foreign sorting office while you wonder where it has got to. The hardware itself is made abroad, as almost all small electronics are, and we would rather say so plainly, but the shop, the stock and the person packing your order are all here.

Why we will talk you out of buying one

Air Tracker is found through Find My, the network Apple built into its own devices. That network is the whole trick: a tag the size of a coin can be spotted streets away because passing iPhones quietly help look for it. The range and the accuracy are not really ours, they belong to Apple, and Apple keeps that network for its own devices.

So there is no Android app for this tracker, there is no clever workaround, and none is coming. If Android is what you carry, please do not buy this; it will do nothing useful for you. It needs an iPhone or an iPad to set up and to follow. We are an independent shop with no connection to Apple, and Find My and AirTag are Apple’s trademarks, not ours.

How it reaches you, and how it comes back

Orders are picked, packed and posted here in the UK, and they go out through Royal Mail with delivery included. Dispatch, delivery and the length of the refund window are written down on the shipping and returns page, which is the one we keep current. It is worth a look before you order.

The promise underneath those dates is a plain one. If the tracker is not what you hoped for, if it will not pair with your phone, or if you have simply changed your mind, send it back inside the window and you get your money back. We would far rather take a tracker back than leave somebody stuck with a gadget that is no use to them.

An inbox with a person behind it

Questions go to an email address that somebody actually opens and replies to, usually before the end of the working day. There is no phone menu, no reference number to quote back at us, and no chatbot doing an impression of help. The contact page has the address on it, along with a short form if typing into a box suits you better.

Ask before you buy rather than after. Whether it will fit the strap on your bag, how the battery is changed, whether an older iPad will do the job, all of those are quicker to settle in an email than in a return. And if the honest answer is that our tracker is not right for what you have in mind, then that is the answer you will get.
